Description:

Many rural communities in Mozambique have poor access to water partly due to low rainfall. Research and preliminary experiments show that catchments along roads may be used to improve the supply of water to local communities in Mozambique. The project identified potential sites along the roads that could be used for the collection and storage of water. Relevant structures were then designed and built to collect and store water for local communities.

Description:

The bridge was constructed using reinforced concrete with 4 spans of 20m each and 1.5m support pillars. Construction of the bridge began in 2009 and was financed by the Republic of Ireland.

This project provided a shorter link between the districts of Majune and Mandimba.

The ABMS maintenance system was developed, with the support from KFW, in five provinces of Mozambique. These being Manica, Tete, Zambezia, Sofala and Inhambane. The National Road Administration (ANE) intends to introduce the ABMS in all provinces of Mozambique.

Stange Consult was contracted by ANE to provide advice and training for staff and consultants within the provinces. This training covered operational concepts and procedures of the camp system (ABMS).

Description:

During the heavy rains that fell in the months of December 2008 and January 2009, the national road (N1) at the Massinga Lindela section was cut off due to deficiencies in the drainage system along this section of road.

Stange Consult redesigned the bridge with three 8m spans and prepared tender documents for the construction of the bridge.

The Muira river crosses the road during the rainy season which prevents it from being used. Stange Consult was hired to prepare detailed designs and plans for the construction of a bridge to cross this river. The final design was a 150m bridge with a reinforced concrete substructure.

Description:

The project was an 84 km road, which feeds a rich agricultural area. The road was deserted at commencement of the project. Stange Consult conducted a complete survey, including materials research, realignment, road geometry and construction improvements.

Periodic maintenance of the EN 103 road

Description:

Repainted the damaged sections and supervised all construction on the EN 103 road and highway linking Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The project included periodic maintenance of the entire road with the weak segments being repaired systematically. A 266 km stretch of road was resealed.

The IDA financed the project to the value of USD 6 million.
